Finding Your Ikigai:

Ikigai is the Japanese concept of finding purpose in life. Nothing seems more important and relevant than finding purpose and happiness in a time like this.

The installation is inspired by the carpet which hangs as the centerpiece to add a sense of depth and mystery that ties to our concept. There has not been a better time to find something that pushes you through each day and repurpose our energies without being able to get out. Our idea was to create a setting that brings the outdoors in and evokes a sense of self reflection. We are all trying to get a piece of the external environment within our space that is driving us to find our Ikigai.

The design of the carpet offers a perspective view which lets us see inside almost trying to find a path. A mirror is always a symbol of self realization and a deeper reflection of the surrounding. The pop of color adds excitement and represents small joys that can brighten the day. Lastly, the cardboard bench pulls together the concept of outdoors and finding a recycled purpose. The idea of being stuck can make you feel lost and finding your Ikigai is essential. We wanted to capture a feeling of being settled and relaxed but always aware and reflective of everything surrounding you; realization of happiness, purpose and embracing the bigger picture.
